APTHQ

Mission AND GOALS

The key objectives of the Quebec Peat Moss Producers Association (APTHQ) are to promote the horticultural peat industry, to represent and defend the interests of its members, to raise awareness of responsible peatland use among producers and to inform the public about this essential agricultural and horticultural resource that is a major component of several products.

The APTHQ coordinates the Peat and Substrates Cluster

In 2007, the provincial government and the peat moss industry signed an agreement, as part of the ACCORD strategy, in order to set up a cluster in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region that would focus mainly on peat and substrates.

The Peat and Substrates Cluster (Créneau Tourbe et substrats in French) unites manufacturers, governmental departments – such as the ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et de l’Énergie (MEIE) that is in charge of the Accord strategy – research centres involved in the industry and regional development agencies.

The cluster’s activities, emanating from an action plan which has been created to support the development of the businesses within the peat industry, address the needs of its members through concrete and structuring projects.
