Peatlands cover 113.6 million hectares in Canada, or around 13 % of the country’s surface area, and are present in all provinces. The most extensive peatland concentration occurs in the Hudson’s Bay lowlands of Ontario and Manitoba. Peatlands are also abundant in northern Alberta, central Saskatchewan, Québec and in the Atlantic provinces.

Quebec has 11,6 million hectares of peatlands, which corresponds to about 8% of the province’s area, of which nearly 85% are north of the 51 parallel.
